The Players Championship goes to a three hole aggregate playoff system

Instead of a sudden death playoff beginning at the 17th, the Players Championship will now have a three hole aggregate playoff on holes 16,17, and 18.

This makes for a great mix with the par-5 16th, the island green par-3 17th, and the difficult par-4 18th. It should create a lot of extra drama should the tournament go to a playoff.

As the "5th major", the Players now joins the PGA Championship with the three hole aggregate playoff system. The British Open has a four hole aggregate system, the U.S. Open has an 18 hole Monday playoff, and the Masters has a sudden death playoff format.
