John Daly pulls a John Daly down under
John Daly has done it again in fine fashion. At the 10th hole of the Australian Open, he played the wrong ball on accident, took a penalty, missed a gimme putt, and ended with triple bogey.
Five minutes later, the television announcer says, "We have word of a developing situation back at the 11th hole." Sure enough, they cut to Daly blasting a ball into the water at the par-5. He attempted to hit the green in two shots but hit seven balls in the water. He ran out of balls and walked off the course.
If any golfer out there needs to see a mental coach, it's Daly.
Golf Australia's director of tournaments, Trevor Herden, condemned Daly's actions in the strongest terms and said: "I would say this is the last time we'll see John Daly in Australia.''
This is certainly not the first time Daly has blown up on the golf course as he's withdrawn numerous times and is on the list for highest golf scores of all time.

Being John Daly

I know a few reasons why JD agreed to the reality show "Being John Daly" on the golf channel.
This article details seven costly pro athlete screw ups, including the following on Daly.
Two-time PGA major champ John Daly gambled away between $50 and $60 million in career earnings, according to his 2006 autobiography. Daly once lost $1.65 million in five hours playing the slot machines at a casino. If you think that’s impressive, there’s more. Daly blew $1.2 million in a mere two hours and 30 minutes at a casino in Las Vegas. He just had his $1.6 million house foreclosed on. Did Daly quit gambling after blowing so much cash at the casino tables? Not by a long shot. Instead, he decided to downgrade from the $5,000 slot machines to the $100 and $500 machines. It looks in John Daly’s world, that is considered sound financial planning.
Playing $5000 slot machines is one possible definition of insanity.

John Daly quits (again), then changes mind (again)

"I'm done. I can't compete. Just can't play like I used to," he said.
He went on to release a statement via Facebook. "To ALL my Fans---my financial situation is putting me where I cannot focus on my game, I'm putting too much pressure on myself, the few sponsors that I have are great but it's not getting me through these times."
"I want to thank my fans throughout all these years & I don't like to continue to embarass myself-- maybe my mind may change down the road but right now i don't have the money to be on the tour. My game has never been the same since my rib injury during the Honda Classic in 2007. God Bless! JD"
Daly probably should have thought about saving a little money rather than blowing millions gambling and playing $5000 slots.
Either way, he later recanted on his initial statements with some new ones on twitter.
"Never said retirement in anything or twitter-i want to correct that! simply sayin I need my time & working through these bad times thank you."
Its not a surprise Daly is struggling with his game as he has lost 116 pounds in the past year due to lap band surgery. He needs to get used to a whole new body and this will definitely have an effect on his golf swing.
Daly is also probably attempting to stir up some added drama for his new reality show which begins in March on the Golf Channel.Photos - AP / Chris Carlson

Tiger On Fire, Daly Disaster

After a routine 71 to begin the Buick Open, Tiger bounced back by firing a 63 in the second round and is now tied for 5th place at ten under par. Tiger opened his round by going birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie, and birdie for the first five holes. This was his best career start and yes, this is ridiculous. This weekend should be a shootout as there are a lot of players in contention.
On the other end of the spectrum, John Daly put on quite a show by shooting an 88 which included a 51 on the front nine. His round included a ten on the first hole, a quadruple bogey, a triple, and two doubles.

"This is different," Daly said. "I can't control my hands like I used to. I have no clue where it's going. I just don't have any feel, and it scares me. This is the most down I've ever been with my golf game. I'm working my butt off, doing everything I need to be doing, and nothing is going right on the golf course."
